FREE City of Sydney Cycling Courses

29 May 2010 – 15 July 2010 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Doors Open 9:00 AM) The City of Sydney is committed to making Sydney a cycling City. At the heart of this commitment is $76 million we have allocated over the next four years to build an effective 200km cycleway network, including 55km of separated cycleways. The City of Sydney want to make cycling a real transport alternative that will reduce road congestion, cut emissions and improve public health. To further encourage people to take up cycling as a safe, sustainable and convenient transport option the City also offers a series of FREE courses to assist people to cycle safely. The Cycling in the City course is a free course available to any individual over 18 years old who is not a beginner. The course teaches low risk and responsible riding and is designed for people who can already ride but want confidence to ride on city streets. Course duration: approximately 4.5 hours Course size: maximum 10 people per course Course instructors: 2 certified cycling instructors Location: CARES Facility in Sydney Park (Mitchell and Sydney Park Roads) Wet weather: courses will run in all but extreme weather conditions. In the event of extreme weather, course participants need to call a mobile number to find out if the course is proceeding on that day or not. FIFA 2010 World Cup at the Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest

Four giant screens will broadcast live all 64 games of the FIFA 2010 World CupTM - over the four-week Sydney International FIFA Fan Fest TM - sponsored by the NSW Government. Sydney is one of six official international host sites and the only city in the Asia-Pacific. The other exclusive hosts are: Paris, Rome, Berlin, Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro. The four screens - three on floating stages - will be set up at Cockle Bay and one in Tumbalong Park and will give football fans round the clock coverage of the FIFA World Cup - from Friday 11 June to Monday 12 July 2010. The Lighting of the Sails attracts locals and visitors alike along the harbour front.
