CAMBIOS

On 17 May 2010, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, Senator Chris Evans, announced the list of occupations included in the new Skilled Occupation List (SOL). The introduction of a new list of occupations is part of a package of reforms that reflects the Government's commitment to a labour market demand-driven Skilled Migration Program.

Unvaulted Exhibition - Town Hall Reopening

6 March 2010 – 26 April 2010 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM UNVAULTED is a celebration of the rich civic legacy which successive Councils of the City of Sydney have preserved in Sydney Town Hall. The collection is significant because it charts the growth of Council and the increasing prestige afforded to the city and its civic leaders. Many items are civic memorials, associated with personalities achievements and events associated with the City of Sydney. For years, many of these items furnished spaces in Sydney Town Hall, but changing fashion and taste saw the removal of many items from display. They were assigned to storage in strongrooms and vaults beneath the building and rarely made accessible to the public. Unlike museums and galleries where curatorial practice dictates that objects are acquired to exacting collection policies, civic collections are an expression of the esteem which the local and international community regards their elected representatives. Many of the items on display in UNVAULTED are official gifts presented in the course of duty. They have been traditionally accepted by successive mayors, lord mayors, aldermen and women and councillors, not as personal gifts but for the people of Sydney. Some of the highlights will include rare items of Australian colonial furniture and silver, HMAS Sydney memorabilia, a lock of hair purportedly from the head of Napoleon; ceremonial 'tools of the trade', including keys, trowel and spades, and some contemporary images of Sydney Town Hall which will show amazing architectural details of the building. This inaugural exhibition in the newly refurbished Lower Town Hall provides an opportunity for you to enjoy the Sydney Town Hall Collection. When: 6 March - 26 April, 10:00am - 4:00pm Last entries 3:00pm Where: Lower Town Hall, Sydney Town Hall 483 George Street Sydney Cost: FREE
